Carpenter’s Kids
The Carpenter’s Kids Program was founded in 2005 as a partnership between the Anglican Diocese of Central Tanganyika and the Episcopal Diocese of New York. “Carpenter’s Kids” are Tanzanian HIV/AIDs orphans and other vulnerable children who are selected by a screening panel. The aim of the program is to ensure that each child receives a school uniform, a pair of shoes, breakfast every morning, and adequate school supplies to enable them to attend primary school.
Today the partnership includes the Diocese of Atlanta, The Diocese of Virginia, and the Diocese of Rochester(NY); churches and individuals in California, New Jersey, Long Island(NY), Southern Virginia, Canada, Australia and the UK.
The Program, which is currently gradually winding down in the Diocese of New York, was open to all children, regardless of religion, in the Dodoma region of Tanzania, East Africa.
