THE STANDING COMMITTEE

Term: Four years, one term

The Standing Committee serves as a trusted advisor to the Bishop and plays an important role in the life and leadership of the Diocese. Committee members work together to support Diocesan governance, encourage healthy ministry, and help guide key decisions with care and wisdom.

· Supporting the discernment and ordination process alongside the Bishop and Commission on Ministry.

· Reviewing parish property requests and major transactions.

· Acting on requests to consent to the election of Bishops across the Episcopal Church.

· Serving as the Ecclesiastical Authority of the Diocese when necessary.

· Reporting annually to Convention on its official acts.

This committee helps lead one of the most meaningful moments in diocesan life: the election of a Bishop, Bishop Coadjutor, or Suffragan Bishop. Members help create a fair, transparent, and prayerful process that invites broad participation and thoughtful discernment across the Diocese.

The Trustees help steward the Diocese’s financial and property resources so that our ministries can continue to grow and thrive. Through thoughtful oversight and long-term planning, Trustees support the mission of the Diocese and help care for resources that serve communities across New York.
