Registration is open to all clergy and lay leaders in the Episcopal Diocese of New York. We especially encourage congregations to register teams of clergy and lay leaders so they can learn together and bring these tools back to strengthen the life and mission of their congregation.

The registration deadline is Friday, October 30, 2026. Space is limited, so we encourage you to register early.

What is the 5×1 Program?

The 5×1 Program is an adaptation of the College for Congregational Development’s residential week-long training. Rather than gathering for one intensive week, participants meet one Saturday each month for five months, allowing time to practice and apply what they are learning within their own congregations between sessions.

Each gathering builds on the previous one through theological reflection, practical leadership tools, collaborative learning, and real-life application. Participants learn alongside clergy and lay leaders from across the Diocese, building relationships that continue long after the program concludes.

Throughout the program, participants will explore topics such as:

  • Understanding congregations as living systems
  • Appreciative Inquiry and healthy organizational change
  • Leadership and teamwork
  • Mission and congregational vitality
  • Conflict transformation and adaptive leadership
  • Healthy decision-making and strategic planning
  • Practical tools that can be immediately applied within your congregation

The program is interactive and experiential. Participants work in small groups, engage case studies and simulations, reflect on their own congregations, and develop practical leadership skills that strengthen ministry.

We especially encourage congregational teams of clergy and lay leaders to participate together, as shared learning often leads to deeper and more sustainable congregational transformation.

A Two-Year Learning Journey

The College for Congregational Development is offered as a two-year curriculum consisting of Year A and Year B. One of the strengths of CCD is that you may begin your journey with either year.

There is no requirement to start with Year A. The curriculum is designed so that participants can enter the program in either Year A or Year B and complete the second year during the following cycle.

If you are new to CCD, you are welcome to register for Year B as your first year. If you completed Year A during the 2025–2026 program year or in previous years, we encourage you to continue your journey by registering for Year B and completing your Intervention Report.
