Feature Story

Our congregations need your help feeding our neighbors during this Advent season.

We all heard about the SNAP crisis this fall. Food benefits were suddenly cut off for millions of New Yorkers. That crisis has ended — yet for the first time, our soup kitchens and food pantries are having to ration food for their guests.

We can help. Every day, Episcopal Charities supports 55 feeding programs across the ten counties of the Diocese of New York. Each year, programs supported by Episcopal Charities feed 2.5 million people. These programs can offer more if we offer support.

Your gift to the Advent Appeal will help ensure that our neighbors have food at Christmas.

A gift of $50 will enable a food pantry to buy a case of peanut butter; $100 can provide two cases of chicken breasts, which can feed 16 families. Your support can also provide transportation for families who need access to food pantries.

Please also consider making a recurring gift. Your weekly, monthly, or quarterly donation will help us respond quickly to new challenges that arise for our food pantries and soup kitchens throughout the year.

I hope you’ll give generously. We all can be part of a wonderful Christmas across our neighborhoods.

With gratitude,

The Rt. Rev. Matthew Heyd
Bishop of New York
