Building Friendship, Trust, and Collaboration Across Faiths

The Episcopal Diocese of New York is committed to building bridges of friendship, trust, and collaboration with our neighbors of all faiths and Christian traditions. Through the work of our Commission on Ecumenical and Interreligious Relations, we seek a deeper understanding and common purpose rooted in love, mutual respect, and shared action.

The Commission includes seven committees that engage in dialogue with Jewish, Muslim, Roman Catholic, Orthodox, Methodist, Lutheran, and other Christian and interfaith partners. These relationships grow through prayerful conversation, shared service, and learning together, always with open hearts and a spirit of hospitality.

Ongoing Collaborations

  • ARCNY and LARCNY join Anglican, Roman Catholic, and Lutheran leaders in dialogue on theology and mission.
  • The Episcopal-United Methodist Committee develops local ways to live out a shared Eucharist agreement.
  • The Eastern Churches Committee connects with Orthodox communities throughout New York.
  • The Council of Churches Committee brings our voice to broader faith coalitions working for justice and compassion.
  • The Jewish-Christian and Episcopal-Muslim Committees create spaces for honest conversation, education, and community programs across traditions.

In all of this, our goal is unity in shared purpose: to care for one another, serve our communities, and reflect God’s love in the world. These partnerships are grounded in connection, sustained by compassion, and strengthened by the courage to walk alongside those whose faith may differ but whose hope is shared.
