Conferences and Continuing Education

An annual conference of deacons will be planned with the Bishop.  Appropriate continuing education is to be scheduled by the deacons themselves.  Parishes with deacons are encouraged to provide funds for continuing education.  Deacons participate in IPC meetings as well as diocesan and regional meetings.  Deacons are encouraged to meet together on a regular basis to build collegiality and foster communication.  Newly ordained deacons meet monthly with the Canon for Ministry Development and various guest speakers for ministry reflection and support.  The Bishop expects regular attendance at these monthly meetings by all deacons ordained fewer than three years.


As ordained persons, deacons are encouraged to engage in spiritual direction and other forms of growth so their ministries may grow.
